Blog Assignment #3 Reflections on Sound Design

In the scene from Ferris Bueller's day off, the sounds are very apparent. There are Casual sounds, and Semantic Sounds. The sounds of Cameron talking are not so unique as we expect them, but when the far away shot shows Cameron screaming in his car with the horn blasting and the engine revving, we hear all of the sounds, seeing the frustration and absurdity of the scene. We also hear the gravel moving from under his feet as he walks away very angrily. This shows us that he is moving fast and is pissed off.

Blog Assignment #2 Finding Your Howl

Story Summary: In Jonathon Flaum's "Finding Your Howl", change this, he talks about a Red Wolf named Mumon. Mumon was raised in captivity and then let back into the wild. When trying to survive in the wild, he realized he forgot to Howl. Many of the other Red Wolves that were in the same position as Mumon wanted to go back to captivity. Mumon thought it was humiliating having to be fed, and not hunt for himself. Eventually, he realizes how to get his howl back, and becomes the Mumon he wanted to be.

Essay:
This story really stuck out to me on a personal level. The past few years of my life were full of many changes and obstacles that I had to deal with - none devastating in any way, but some quite difficult. A quote I like enough to actually have tattooed to myself reads, "It's by doing whatever that one becomes whoever" - Remi Gaillard. It's as simple as it gets. That's why I like it. Remi Gaillard is a stunt-comedian from Europe who takes his life on the not-so-serious side. Remi is not even very relevant in the reason as to why I love this quote. The story of Mumon finding his howl seems very similar to my favorite quote.

Throughout high school, college seemed like it would just come and I would be there no matter what. Until my Senior year, I never really realized that it was possible for me to not get into a college. My grades were not in great shape, so I started to worry during the applying to school process. I started to do everything I could to make sure that I would get to go to school. I met with professors, took visits, and sent in updated ACT scores. When I finally found out that I was accepted to the schools I applied for, I felt that my work paid off.

When in college my freshman year, I was an art student at the University of Dayton. I do not regret being at that school one bit, for my creative knowledge learned at that school has opened up a world of new ideas and thought processes. Anyways, after a year of school there, I realized that I wanted to do more work with video. I knew I couldn't do that at UD, so I made the decision to transfer to Ohio University. At first it was just a thought, and I didn't really think I was actually going to do it... But then I realized how bad I wanted to become great at video work. So the quote came up again in my head, "It's by doing whatever that one becomes whoever". So, mid-sophomore year, I transferred to OU.

Transferring to OU, I had to be placed into the "Undecided" major, for the Media Arts and Studies only accepted applications in the spring. Eventually, that time came, and I was very un-prepared. My grades were not looking like they would be good enough to get in, and I was very worried that my transfer would have been for the worst. Once again, the quote popped into my head, and I knew I could find a way. I found a professor in the school that I talked to most every day, trying to find help. I created a great portfolio, and bugged many people who were high on the admissions board. Eventually, all my work of being a total pest paid off, and I was accepted into the school.

This quote has got me through some crazy times in my life, helping me find my niche, or "howl". I'm proud I will get to keep it the rest of my life.

Blog Assignment #1 Deconstructing Characters

For my Hero Character, I created Reverend Recyclo.

Color: Reverend Recyclo's main colors are brown, green, and blue. These colors, clearly seen in the photo, are colors representing nature. Reverend Recyclo is all about saving the planet and going "Green". In the photo, there is a nice blue sky and pond, with wooded areas surrounding. Reverend Recyclo would reside in a place like this one.
Light: The light in the image above reflects the perfection of Reverend Recyclo. He shines through any darkness, creating an area of beauty around him. His green glow around his brown bark skin also shines to show his motives. The light in the image above also shines through the woods. Reverend Recyclo loves woods and nature, so this is a familiar sight to him.

Shape: Reverend Recyclo's shape is very unique in that it is of a tree. He moves very similar to the Recycling symbol, very smoothly. When he walks, his root legs smoothly cycle for him to move swiftly. His cape also flows very nicely as he moves, just like the recycling symbol. Also, his main weapon, the recyclodisc is a newly designed recycling symbol, much like the one above.
